Legal notice and privacy

Who publishes this archive, who hosts it, what personal data it handles, and how it may be reused.

Publisher

This website is published by VNDR, the compiler of the archive, who is also its publication director. The publisher is a private individual and publishes the site without any commercial purpose; his identity has been given to the host, as French law allows non-professional publishers to do. To write to him:

Host

The site is hosted by IONOS SARL, 7 place de la Gare, BP 70109, 57200 Sarreguemines Cedex, France (RCS Sarreguemines 431 303 775), telephone: 0970 808 911.

Personal data

The archive describes only people who are deceased and were born before 1900, and publishes nothing about living people. Data protection law does not apply to the dead.

The site sets no cookies and has no analytics, advertising or tracking, no forms or accounts, and loads nothing from other websites. It remembers one thing only: the language you chose, kept in your own browser (local storage) so that the front page can send you there next time. It is never sent to anyone.

Connection logs. The host keeps technical logs of connections (such as the IP address and the time of a visit) to run and secure the service, under its own responsibility and for the periods set by its own policy.

Messages. If you write to the archive, the publisher receives your e-mail address and whatever you put in your message. It is used only to answer you and to check a correction or an addition, and it is not passed on or used for any other purpose. The legal basis is the publisher’s legitimate interest in answering readers and keeping the record accurate. Messages are kept in the publisher’s mailbox, with Proton Mail (Switzerland), and are deleted on request and, at the latest, three years after the last exchange.

Your rights. You may ask the publisher, at the address given above, for access to the data held about you, for its correction or erasure, or object to its use. If you think your rights are not respected, you may complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).

Reuse and credits

The texts of this archive were written by the publisher. They may be quoted freely, naming the archive and the page as the source (see “How to cite” on the Sources page); republishing a whole page or a translation requires a prior request to the publisher.

Pictures and documents belong to their authors and keep their own licences or permissions, listed picture by picture on the Sources page. The family photographs are published with the family’s permission.

If you hold rights over a picture shown here and think it is used wrongly, write to the address above: the matter will be examined and, if needed, the picture removed.

Accuracy

This is a work of research from published sources, with its doubts shown. It is not legal, genealogical or heraldic advice, and nothing on this site establishes a right to a name, a title or property.
